2015 Sampler Blanket

Image
I have spent a lot of time recently trying to decide what I will be doing over the next year. What will be the one word for 2015? Then I read about a Sampler Blanket or in my case a quilt over at CraftyRie and I think no rules just a hashtag #2015samplerblanket Create a quilt with my own rules a couple blocks a month. Rie says - You can knit, crochet, quilt, embroider the blocks.. or rectangles.. or hexagons.. or circles. You can join as you go or make them continuous or leave them in a pile and join them at the end. You can make a square every day or week or month or season.... I think I like the square a month idea myself. You can choose one colour or a multitude of colours. Any pattern. Any design. Any stitch. What do you think? Does this sound like fun to you? I think it will be fun why don't you join us! Hop on over to CraftyRie and link up with me! Project #1 - #2015samplerblanket Everyone doing their own thing but together! Sounds Unique which is right down my alley!

Everyone comes home

Everyone made it home to see us. Reindeer Zoey seems the happiest with her gifts and meeting her Aunt for the first time! Our youngest daughter was glad to bring Zoey to our little party and open presents before giving me the flu! Thank you dear next time I hope to return the favor! I am sorry but waiting to tell me you are sick until you have been here a day, and exposed the household has made me grumpy! Our Dave did receive quite a bit and was very happy with his new stash of Xbox games! It is delightful to show my Mom here as she receives a gift! As this blog is also a record of our lives in the boon docks. Our oldest Daughter was able to get time off from work and join us for Christmas. It made it very special because David had not seen her in almost a year. Little Zoey had never met her Aunt! As I write this they are out with Davids Bow and Arrows testing them out! Makes me most happy he gets to spend time with his mother! No pictures of Randy and I? Nope I took the photos a

She feels like the tree is just a new way to display TOYS! But my anniversary is four days after Christmas and we served cupcakes - so our cake topper was actually two tiny Polly Pocket dolls. I made a mini cupcake ornament and put the two of them on top to hang on the tree! You are all so wonderful! What do you call a personal post

Dear Family, Friends, and Followers, My family is going through quite a bit these days. My husband had a heart attack a week ago. I have left the hospital once to wash myself, a load of clothes, charge the phone, and sleep once. I take so much for granted with my spouse and the realization I could loose him in just a minute is unbearable. Nothing but family matters at this moment. A husband who will be released from the hospital barely able to walk or breath terrifies me. Open heart surgery with 6 bypasses is a lot for a body to go through. He has months of recovery to go through but he is a strong man and we have faith! While at the hospital I found out about a Nurse who makes Open Heart Pillows for the Cardiac Stepdown Floor. Nurse Brenda does this on her own time and recruits others to help her make pillows for the patients. When you have your chest cracked for open heart surgery it is very painful to cough, hiccup, and just breath! Holding the pillow against the surgery incis

Handmade Gift for the Kitchen

Image
Hanging Dishtowels I like to make handmade items to give at Christmas that the recipient can use year round. Hanging dishtowels fit in this category and can be as hard or easy as you want to make it. You get two hanging dishtowels out of one towel so it is a twofer, which is great if you need to make a lot of gifts, keeps the cost down! I found a great free Pattern by Mara Drogan That I changed up a bit and am very happy with the results! Please send me a picture if you make some. First change I made to the pattern after I printed it and before I cut it out was to add two inches from the tab to the bottom of the page for pattern piece 2. Then I cut both pieces out and taped them together. This gave me a long enough fold over flap to attach to my oven door. It also changed the fabric length from 7" x 12" to 7" x 14" Since I was working with fat quarters I did not prewash my fabric but did wash the dishtowels before I cut them! Next, instead of flannel I used

Project Teen Class

Image
This last Saturday, I went to Quilter's Square , in Lexington, KY, and took a class with Melissa Mortenson of Polkadot Chair ! I was really excited to meet Melissa, she is a super talented Blogger, Author, and Designer! We received her book Project Teen as part of the class which was wonderful that Kela, Quilter's Square, set it up that way. If you are like me with a 9 years old at home this book is perfect! New ideas for the older child in your house! I am making the study pillow and putting it under the Christmas tree with his new set of books! I plan on making a few other projects in the book for my niece too! It is a must have book for any Sewist collection! The Study Pillow I picked the fabrics based on what I hope David would like but I just could not help myself and used Tula Pink line Moonshine and a mix of Cotton + Steel Basics Melissa was nice enough to sign all our books and write a personal note to each of us. Inspiration is everywhere at Quilter'

ALYOF November Goal

Image
Life is amazing, no matter how much preplanning I do lately things just are not getting done. I decided I would post them anyways here for the record! I was going to enter this Flowering Snowball mini quilt into Amy's Creative Side Blogger's Quilt Festival Fall 2014 I went out two weeks ago and took some beautiful photos! I completed my ALYOF October Goal for Sew BitterSweet Designs and again missed the deadline! But I did make the deadline for World Book Media who took it to Quilt Market (yes, first time, very exciting, want to do it again)! I made this cute little fabric basket for David's sweet 4th grade teacher! I admire men and women who can teach a room full of 9 and10 years old! For I think I would go Buggers (hi, Lucy)! One is enough for me! Since grossing me out lately is his entertainment. So for November I am going to try and get my self together and meet my next deadline! The IG Mini Swap! I have it narrowed down to these two patterns! I just got my ru
