Giveaways will continue to encourage us all to have fun in 2013. Thank you all for sticking with me while I learn. I expect to have something good for the Blog's Anniversary! So keep a eye out!

Trying to Finish 2012

I got the Library Bag (perfect for carrying 2 or 3 books) done for my Mom in time for Christmas! She was really surprised Christmas morning and loves it. It truly made me happy to please her.

I love these strange women knitting!

Sorry the boon docks blog has been quiet lately with school out we play to much XBox and try out all the new stuff my favorite 7 year old received. A child grows up so fast you just have to stop to play. Even when you have no idea what your doing a kid thinks it is great just to have your attention. Thank you for your understanding.

I think he had a great Christmas!

I am trying to catch up with my Scrappy? Sew bee it! Flickr group! I have worked on these 16 blocks today and hopefully will complete them by tomorrow! That way I will only be one month behind!

Low Volume blocks for Rosa! She wants a quilt like Rita's @ Red Pepper Quilts I find Rita's blog very inspirational! Definitely worth a look! I plan to post my finishes for 2012 and goals for next year soon! Sew like you mean it! Lisa

Betty Lou Thank You

My lovely blog friend Betty Lou American Vintage Quilts aka Sugarland Quilts is a traditional quilter and really creates beautiful things. She is on Santa's nice list this year! I got a great Christmas gift in the mail yesterday! It cheered me up and I think maybe made me feel a little better! Thank you so much Betty Lou, Hugs and stitches to you too!

Lynette Jensen has created fabrics, patterns, and books, under the Thimbleberries name for more than 25 years. You can find Lynette at The Berry Blog by Thimbleberries and on Facebook. I have always loved the look and feel of Thimbleberries fabrics.

Now I have (4) beautiful kits with patterns and fabric to make in 2013! One kit only needs the quilting and binding and it is done and it is so pretty! Going on my table! What wonderful gifts!

(2) wall hanging kits and (2) table runners I am so ready to be well again and start sewing! I do have (5) project goals for 2013 now. Thanks again Betty Lou!

Are you working on yours project goal yet? Before you know it New Years Eve will be here! Thank you so much for following and check out Betty Lou's Blog! Lisa

What is going on this Wednesday

In the summer months David, Momma, and I hit the yard sales. I love to buy bags of fabric for really cheap! When I go through it later I pick out what I might want and share the rest. This summer I got a bag for $1.00 that had some pieces to make ducks and geese. Some vintage fabric and (2) unstuffed animals: a bear and a cat. I gave everything away but the bear and cat. Using some child labor and cartoons, David and I stuffed both of them two days before Thanksgiving. My cousin's family was coming for the holiday and his wife loves cats. David was so proud to give Teresa a gift he helped make and she really loves it. The bear is in our living room as a decoration (he had slept in David's room until 3 days ago). The point I am trying to get at is if you invest $1.00 and find 1 thing you can use it is worth it. I have the memory of the time spent creating with my boy that my friends is "priceless"!

"A Ghastlies Night", Alexander Henry Fabric Collection, I posted about how much my Mom liked this fabric when I won it Ghastlies have arrived. I have her believing a making something for a online challenge, instead of a library bag for her. He he!

I dug in my stash of tucked away favorites and found these fabrics, Cheap Talk by Connecting Threads, to make pillowcases for the school children in CT! Cheap talk is one of my all time favorite to make kids thing with! Gotta start working on these so they get them after holiday break! Are you going to make one?

fiberluscious Christmas Giveaway this link will take you to a giveaway for such a beautiful pincushion. The only problem with telling everyone what craftsmanship is in this pincushion and the talent of the creator is that is having a giveaway - more people will enter! I love pincushions and this is right up one top of my list! So, go enter for your chance after your finish reading!

I just received a gift (can't show you) I bought off ETSY Karen's store is Quilting, Thrifting & Selling for my Mom for Christmas it is a great place to shop! I gotta start wrapping, wrapping, and wrap some more tomorrow! Yippee!

Health Update: The flu turned into a sinus infection, bronchitis, and a temporary diabetes (so says the doctor). After I am well the fluctuation in sugar blood levels should go back to normal. Also one of the reasons I felt so bad! I am on super antibiotics and I should be better just in time for Christmas! Already feeling better!

Something Constructive to do with our Grief/Prayer Chain

I am sorry folks for being such a mess the last few days! This post is to give me something positive to do! Blogs all over are trying to find something to help out! I have made pillowcases for the last 2 years for kids in hospitals and have seen first hand how it does cheer them up. So lets all spend a couple hours making the surviving children pillowcases at Sandy Hook School. Just make happy pillowcases and mail it/them to the Quilters Corner. Postage for a single pillowcase is not much and maybe we will feel better because we did something!

Pillowcases for Kids of Sandy Hook Elementary

Jackie from Canton Village Quilt Works passed this info along:

Help the families in Newtown... Here is how... Becky at Quilters Corner in New Milford, CT is collecting pillowcases for the children at Sandy Hook School. She is trying to collect around 600.
Please pass this message to any sewing friends.
Pillowcases can be mailed to her at

Twister Quilted

Well last week I am working a throw quilt for my new granddaughter to be born in January. I finished the top on Monday! I call it a throw quilt because I want it thrown on the floor/ground before the baby is put down on the floor or in the grass outside. Put it on the couch before you put the baby on it. A quilt you can take in the car and wash it when you get home. A barrier between the baby and the world. A baby wrapped in love! Yes, it is a little sappy!

It started out as 10" x 10" square and a 6 1/2" border.

Using the "Twister" Ruler by The Country Schoolhouse /CS Designs, I cut it up and sewed it back together! Instructions come with the ruler.

This is my wonderful model/husband pretending to be the guy hanging his nose over the fence.

I embroidered her name! Please disregard those strings I took care of them.

Guess what? When you have that many pins and start to sew you get stabbed over and over again!

Then basting and pinning. A longtime quilter once told me if you could put your hand down and do not touch a pin, you didn't have enough! Well, I pinned the crud out of this quilt. No wrinkles for me! It helped that I used a little Elmer's Spray Adhesive between the layers (Use in a well ventilated area)! I laid it on the bed opened the windows and turned on two overhead fans. It was 50 degrees in my bedroom but I got it smooth and added all those pins.

Machinger's are Machine Quilters Gloves and worth their weight in gold! I put them on and stopped getting pin stuck. They also helped in guiding the fabric through the machine. I love these gloves!

At the baby shower my daughter was expecting burp cloths! She knows I feel every new mom cannot live without them. She was mighty surprised to find Zoey's quilt in the bag! It made her cry seeing her daughter's name embroidered on it! It was one of those mother's "PRICELESS" moments! Made my heart sing!

You would never know she was a "Daddy's Girl" by this photo! There is the nose and hands hanging over a fence again! Ha ha!

Quilt top fabric: Daisy Cottage, Riley Blake/Kona Brown
Quilt back fabric and binding: Bear Hugs, Laura Berringer, Marcus Fabrics

I still have somethings to finish up for Christmas so you will be hearing from me before then! Lisa

Hobo Bag Finished

A UFO that had been hanging around for months got finished this week! Yippee! I used Tula Pinks fabric line "Nightshade". The first time I saw Tula's pirate girl all I could see was my oldest daughter when she was little. She really wanted to be a pirate or a ninja turtle. Now, at 27 she is an independent beautiful woman living in NY state. So maybe she will think of me when she uses this to carry her groceries. It is quite big, my mother said big bags like this where called "hobo bags" in the 60's.

Above is the inside, Nightshade Apothecary in Vapor, with two big pockets, Nightshade Spider Blossom in Vapor.

Below is the back! I used Nightshade Raven Lace on the strap and opening. Nightshade Storm Clouds for the back and front.

This is the appliquéd front of Netunia Von Black from Nightshade Coven in Vapor. The model is Joyce my very helpful Mom! Who said the bag could just stay here! I packed it up and will mail it tomorrow with my daughter's other Christmas gifts. This is only the second time in her life she hasn't been home for Christmas! Hopefully next year she will be able to visit.

My Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day is HERE . There is still time to enter!

I am sorry to say I am having difficulty keeping up with all the comments. I am trying to read each one but in a giveaway with so many participants I may not be able to respond to all of them. Thank you for understanding.

Thank you for stopping by "In The Boon Docks", we are always happy to have guests anytime. Hope to see you again soon. Lisa

Oh and a new granddaughter will be born in January for us to spoil when she comes to visit. I sew, quilt, crochet, knit, and other crafty stuff. We also live in the boon docks of WV.

Here is the link back to Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day page.

What to giveaway? How about fabric? It is one of my favorite things?

I recently joined the Fat Quarter Shop's Moda Mini Charm Pack Club and I just love those 2 1/2" squares. They are great for making baskets, mini quilts, mug rugs, and you get to see the whole line. That way you see if you want to order more! So, I am going to share one with the winner "Windsor Lane". So you can see how fun this club is to be in! This makes a great Christmas present!

Since I am in a sharing mood I will share one of my winnings with you, Freespirit's "London" 6 x 6 charm pack. Sweet!

Now, how do you win?

(1) Leave a comment - Answer this for me: "If you could have one reasonably priced item for Christmas or other related December holiday what would it be? Be specific, don't just say a sewing machine at least tell me the brand. Me, I would like the new Babylock Tiara - 16" tabletop longarm quilting machine. A girl can dream!

(2). You get a second comment if you follow "In The Boon Docks"! If you are a new follower please write that in the comment PLEASE and how you follow. This gives you (2) chances to win.

Modern Scrappy Bits Swap

This is why I love participating in Flickr Swap Groups. I received a package in the mail the other day from the secret partner who got my name this round. There are thousands of swap groups going on at the Flickr site always needing people to join. Modern Scrappy Bits is in round 2 and I am hoping there will be a round 3! Danielle was responsible for sending me one fat quarter of scraps and a handmade item of her choice and she made me this beautiful mini quilt. So happy with her handmade, she is very talented. Thank you so much Danielle!

This is the backing fabric! Sorry, don't know the name of it but it is really pretty!

Modern scraps - oh how I love all these little pieces! Danielle sent me a wide range of scraps and definitely more than a fat quarter! Yippee fun! I like this so much because some I may not have ever boughten for myself but once I see them, I love them. On the other side, I might have it on my list of wanting at end of season, when they go on sale, and decide I don't really like it. All that happens then is it goes in a bag for the next modern scrap swap for my next partner. But I love all of these! Favorite out of these are the bicycles, they are just so darn cute!

This is to show you I am working on something and of course my faithful companion George! I am using a layer cake (10" squares) of "Daisy Cottage" and the large "twister" ruler to make a baby quilt for a carseat. I am really finding it much easier for me to work with the larger ruler. I love the "lil twister" ruler but nicked myself several times the last time I used it. I like using different kinds of rulers to create new designs. I got three rows cut out and sewn together today and will try to get the rest done tomorrow. Maybe in time to tell you the winner of the Traveling Stash Box which will leave WV on Monday! You can still sign up here!, it was really fun! I will try to win again, but it took almost a year to get this one.

Thank you for stopping at "In The Boon Docks" to share my fun! Lisa

Traveling Stash Pass It On Giveaway

The Pass It on Traveling Stash Box is jam packed with fabric, patterns, and notions! The best part is opening the box and finding so much stuff with the feeling you could remove everything and repack it with any thing you want for the next person. Only problem with that is it could be quite "costly", a whole lot of things fit into this box. So, my cousin and I careful looked at each item, which was fun. Their family came for Thanksgiving and deer season. Which means our husbands and kids where all out hunting when this box arrived the day after Thanksgiving. This was in the box! Yippee! I really love this stash box concept!

I fell hard for these things!

And this pattern - not the kid's mess on the table!

I am adding these patterns and notions to the box!

I pulled these fabrics from my stash to replace the stash I wanted to take out.

Urban Farm - Short Stack by Keri Beyer, In the Beginning Fabrics; 9 quarter yard cuts (2 1/4 yards), Pink Polka Dots - 1 yard, (2) 5" Minkee Brights charm packs by Benartex, Butterfly fabric - 1/2 yard, Quilter's Quarters - DS Quilts Collection - 1 yard, 10" Daisy Cottage Layer Cake - Riley Blake

And I added 5" Charm pack - Crazy Daisy by Benartex Sampler!

See anything you like? Want to get in on the fun?

Here’s how to win the Traveling Stash box:
1.) Due to quick turn around times, you must live in the U.S.
2.) Must be an active blogger
3.) Must be willing to replace what you take out with similar quality/quantity of items, hold a drawing and ship it back out.

That’s it! If you want to put your name in, here’s what you can do…

1. Leave a comment telling me "What your favorite sewing notion and why"? Mine is my new Gingher scissors - nice and sharp.

2. For an extra entry, be or become a follower of this blog and leave a second comment telling me, how you follow "In The Boon Docks".

I’ll use Mr. Random.org to draw a number next Sunday and will announce the winner then! The giveaway will remain open until 12:00 pm on Sunday, December 2, 2012.

I wish you all could win it has been so fun for me! Lisa. So hurry up and leave a comment!

If you are interested in signing up for the other traveling stash boxes click on the box on the right hand side and it will take you there!

Fabric Basket

Traveling Stash Update

Have you heard about the Traveling Stash? I have a box I will be sending on to some lucky winner! If you are interested please click HERE and leave a comment. U.S. only due to mailing costs!

Fabric Basket

I got all my scraps together and made this little basket! I modified the pattern I used for the Patchwork Fabric Basket (that I blogged about here) by using 3 1/2 inch squares, (3) on each side (instead of the patchwork). I hope my partner in Modern Scrappy Bits Swap! Round 2 likes it as much as I do! I made this basket with scraps and have no idea who designed the fabric but I love it!

I hope you decide to try something new this week! I would love to see it! Leave me a comment and I'll stop in and have a look! Thank you for stopping at "In The Boon Docks", Lisa!

It is Tuesday so I am linking up with Connie @ Freemotion by the River. Thanks Lisa
